WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, the Congressional Black Associates (CBA) released the following statement on the two-year anniversary of the January 6th Insurrection.
“January 6th will forever be remembered as one of the darkest and most dishonorable days in our nation's history. As the anniversary of the shameful attack returns, the Congressional Black Associates reaffirms our commitment to advocating for and supporting Black staffers who still grapple with the trauma of witnessing such vandalism and violence in our spaces of work and service.
“Today and every day, CBA holds deep gratitude for the heroic law enforcement who defended our democracy, Congress, and Constitution with their lives, preventing a heinous attempt to stop the peaceful transfer of power. We continue to condemn the brutal acts of violence demonstrated by the rioters, and the disturbing symbols of racism that were paraded around the campus on that day. In the aftermath of January 6th, we have been proud to join the chorus of others advocating for stronger protections on behalf of our members and staff at-large.
"Understanding the pain that so many Capitol Hill employees continue to struggle with, CBA remains committed to its work pushing for safe and secure work environments, and will work to make sure Black staffers have access to the mental health and wellness resources they need to move forward."
